After a long, hard winter, the first signs of spring are enough to lift the spirits and is now the time to start thinking about your garden in summer.

Things that you may wish to consider are: do you want bedding plants and if so, will you want your bedding colour coordinated or just a riot of colour. Have you any shady areas for example?

Will you want to have hanging baskets? Do you want them made for you? Or do you just want to buy the materials to make them up for yourself? Maybe you would like to bring in your own baskets and let us make them up for you. This way you can then be sure that we will plant them up correctly and look after them until you are ready to take them home with you. If you do want us to do this for you, then the sooner you order your baskets, the better they will be when you pick them up.

Would you like to grow some of your own vegetables and/or herbs? If so, then it is best to plan exactly what you would like to grow at an early stage. You can grow vegetables in all sorts of different containers as well.  e.g. tomatoes in a hanging basket, they can also be incorporated into bedding schemes.

Exciting Plants for Autumn Planting!

When you are looking at planting bedding in autumn, you are really looking for something that will begin flowering now and then burst into a fantastic display next spring.

Here at Kings Hill, we have been searching to find some exciting new bedding plants to liven up your year!

We have added a few interesting varieties to all the usual favourites to really bring some colour to your garden this winter.

Firstly we have a true trailing Pansy which is perfect for brightening up your winter baskets. We are also now selling the ‘Friolina’, a stunning type of trailing Viola in blue or yellow, giving you masses of bright flowers. However, we don’t want to forget the old favourites, like the winter flowering Pansies and Violas. They do a brilliant job and we have plenty of them at the nursery this autumn in various colours. We have a new hardy scented ‘Stock’ which will flower from now right the way through until next spring. The new hardy Dianthus, Sweet Williams, Wallflowers and various Bellis Daisies are just a few other examples of flowers that have available this autumn at the nursery.

This year we are also selling a much wider range of unusual bulbs. A note worthy few includes the amazing Erythronium, the Snakes-head Fritillaries and a variety of Alliums and rare Trilliums. The classic blue ‘Forget-me-nots’ are a super compliment to any garden forming a mat of flowers through which you can grow bulbs.

Although bedding is a great way to brighten up your winter, we shouldn’t forget the autumn flowering perennials like the hardy Chrysanthemums. These will help to bring colour to your garden year after year.

Overall there really is a lot to tempt you at the Nursery this autumn!

Although winter is the dormant season for many plants, it doesn’t mean that your garden needs to look as though it’s sleeping! There are those hardy plants that face the frosts, lift the gloom and bring some much needed life and vitality to your garden through those hard few months of the year, plants such as Mahonia, Winter Flowering Jasmine, Hellebores. The list is quite long!

If the weather is suitable then you can still plant shrubs and perennials, also spring bedding can still be planted providing the soil conditions are suitable.

Spring bedding Plants we have available will be  Pansies,  Violas, Primulas and Primroses

Why not plant some perennial alpines to give you a spring show of colour?

Christmas

The dull dark days of winter can be brightened up with the addition of some floral power, colours and scents.

Here on the Nursery we use nature’s bounty to add colour and scent to your home.

You can choose from a selection of our handmade wreaths, some of them are absolutely stunning and could look wonderful hanging on your front door. Some are plainer and might be the ideal answer to remembering your missing loved ones at this special time of the year.

We stock a large range of Christmas trees in sizes ranging from 3ft to 9ft. You can also choose from the traditional or Nordman tree, the smell of a fresh tree is one of the joys of Christmas! Our friendly staff will be happy to carry your tree to your car for you too.

We are well known for our Poinsettia plants and grow a range of different colours for you to choose from.

We also have available Cyclamen, Primroses and a large selection of plant arrangements for you to choose from – these make perfect gifts!
